judge to probe children's death

KARACHI, March
22: The Sindh cabinet ordered on Thursday a judicial inquiry
into the death of two children of an additional sessions judge
of Karachi. The inquiry commission will be headed by a judge
of the Sindh High Court.
The cabinet, which met with Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro
in the chair, expressed its deep sorrow and grief over the
tragedy and described it as a bad performance on the part of
police.
The governor said those found guilty of negligence would be
taken to task according to the law.
Other issues reviewed were peace during Muharram, the law and
order situation, availability of water for agriculture,
residential facilities for government servants, job quota for
the handicapped and construction of secretariat building.
The governor ordered the continuation of the drive against
anti-social elements.
Appreciating the performance of the police party in the
encounter with criminals in Matiari, the cabinet recommended
awards for the police party.
The meeting also decided to launch an effective drive against
illegal immigrants.
The governor ordered police to take necessary steps for the
registration of all domestic employees and sought cooperation
from the people on the matter.
He asked the administration to take measures for ensuring the
feeling of amity and understanding during Muharram and for
maintaining the sanctity of the month.
The cabinet decided to amend the Sindh Civil Servants Act to
raise the quota of the handicapped in government jobs from one
to two per cent. It also recommended the construction of
modern buildings at the old barracks of the Sindh secretariat.
Reviewing the availability of water, the cabinet was informed
that crop management groups had been formed in different parts
of the province to guide farmers to change crop pattern,
according to geographical conditions.
The meeting decided to apportion a specific amount for lining
of canals in the annual development budget. |
