KARACHI, March
21: An inquiry report, on Wednesday, held four police
officials responsible for killing two children of Judge
Rashida Asad in the PECHS area, on Monday.
The inquiry was initiated by the SSP CIA, Manzoor Mughal, on
the directives of the DIG Karachi, Tariq Jamil. The SSP held
three head constables Mujtaba, Supard Khan, Liaquat and a
constable, Arif, responsible for shooting and killing the two
innocent children - Aliza, 5, and two-and-a-half-year-old
Auzan.
Rashida Asad, Senior Civil and Assistant Sessions Judge, West,
occupied the front seat of the car, holding her
two-and-a-half-year-old son Auzan in her arms with her
five-year-old daughter sitting beside her. Her husband was
driving the official car. The bandits held them for hostage
cover, while fleeing, when the police opened fire.
Following the submission of the inquiry report, all the
responsible officials were placed under suspension and arrest.
They were lodged at the CIA Jamshed Quarters. They would be
produced before the relevant court, on Thursday.
According to the inquiry report, at the time of the incident,
ASI Ghulam Sarwar was in the commanding position, but when the
bandits fired shots from inside the house, Sarwar suffered
bullet wounds. Thereafter, Head Constable Mujtaba assumed the
command and shot seven bullets. His fellow policemen Supard
Khan shot six, Liaquat shot one and constable Arif fired four
bullets. A total number of 18 shots were fired and seven among
them hit the car.
The inquiry stated that as the car came out of the judge's
house, in which the bandits held the family hostage, the
police, without observing the gravity of the situation, opened
fire. "Due to this irresponsible step taken by the
police, two innocent children were shot dead," the
inquiry added.
The inquiry expressed sorrow over the incident and recommended
stern action against the officials involved in the incident. |
